Conflict Resolution At Easton Royal
At Easton Royal, we teach children the 'High Fives' Strategy to help them resolve any kind of conflict from minor playground issues to dealing with bullying.
Through drama and role play, children are taught five stages to move through when dealing with conflict. We give them opportinities to practise body posture and eye contact and we also give them some useful phrases to use when operating the strategy and this means that they are always prepared. It is also important to emphasise the step 5 'report'; children know that they would not be expected to follow all five steps in the event of a serious incident or if they do not feel safe (in these cases, they would move straight to step 5). We want children to be empowered to sort out their own issues and be assertive, where appropriate as this is a skill they will need even more as they grow.
We would love it if you had a copy of this poster at home and were able to reference it when talking about issues of conflict with your children ("did you follow the steps?" "how do you think you could deal with that next time?" "Do you think you should have reported that straight away?" etc).
